"I am looking forward to the change of situation but after four years in Waiouru I will be sad to leave the many friends I have made," says recently promoted police sergeant Greg Whyte.
Sergeant Whyte has been transferred to Greymouth and will take up his new position on 28 August. Previous to his four years in Waiouru Greg worked in Taihape for four years, Wanganui for one year and Ohakune for one year, so he knows the area extremely well. Greg says the low crime rate of Waiouru is due to the disciplined background of most of
the population. He says most of his work is through the mail and relates to soldiers that have been out of Waiouru on courses or leave. Greg's replacement is not yet known as the position is still being advertised.
Greg describes Waiouru as a pleasant area to work in and he has found the people very friendly and helpful. Pat Tasker Replacing Constable O'Donnell who has taken up a new position in Taihape is Constable Pat Tasker. After 19 months in Wanganui Pat Tasker and his wife moved to Waiouru to take up his new position on 17 July.
Pat says he is enjoying Waiouru and is pleased to say he expected the temperatures to be a lot cooler than they have been. Something Pat likes about Waiouru is being so close to work - Pat and his wife live in the house that is attached to the Police Station so there is no travel involved! Swimming and cycling are two interests that Pat likes to pursue in his spare time.
