College speakers
Last week the Ruapehu College school finals of the Korimako speech competition was held at Ruapehu College. The results were as follows. Senior English (Korimako): Ana Brien (Kiwi) 1st, Mark Akurangi (Tui) 2nd, Ginneen Smith (Huia) 3rd. Senior Maori (Pei Te Hurinui Jones): Mario Mareikura (Tui) 1st, Awhina Edwards (Huia) 2nd, Cherie Kui (Kiwi) 3rd. Junior English (Sir Turi Carroll): Roberta Williams (Kiwi) 1st,
Karlene Beech (Weka) 2nd, Rose Renata (Weka) 3rd. Junior Maori (Rawhiti Ihaka): Che Wilson (Tui) 1st, Nicola Cast (Huia) 2nd. Mr Mathew Mareikura in judging the speeches said he was very impressed with the subject matter and presentation by the students. Many
of the ideas presented were topics being discussed by adults. First place-getters in each section represented the school in the ganui-Taranaki-Man-awatu and Horo whenua regional finals at Wanganui on Thursday. A group of students and supporters accompanied the group.
