Raetihi's winning streak over
Raetihi senior rugby team's winning run ended on Saturday after top Division Two team Hunterville beat them 14-0.
The heavier Hunterville forwards pack took the game to Raetihi, and Hunterville led 10-0 at half time. Chris Bennett, James Renata, Marsh Tangaroa and Jim and Eric Beasley played well. The slippery conditions led to handling mistakes on both sides. Marist beats Waiouru Waiouru's first division team went to fourth equal position after taking their toughest, but only second, loss on Saturday. Marist, in second place in the division, beat Waiouru 26-9 with the Army team loosing spirit from two tries within ten minutes midway through the secorid spell. A penalty try and a field goal in the closing minutes polished off Waiouru. Waiouru's flanker Steve Cameron put the team in the lead shortly before half time, at 63, but Marist managed a try just before the whistle. Marist took a little time to gain control in
the second half but their forwards were then in top form. Best of the Waiouru team were Graham Scruton, Steve Cameron, Tahi Morton, Hemi Morete, Pita Lloyd and Rick Tawhiri. Lachlan Harding kicked Waiouru's penalty and conversion. Marist B beat Ohakune Karioi Ohakune Karioi are now second off the bottom of the Second Division after their heavy loss to Marist B on Saturday. Marist led 10-3 at half time against Ohakune Karioi who failed to provide much in the way of opposition, though there were some fine shows by individual players. Ohakune's Brendan Wilson, Wayne Corn e 1 i u s , M i k e Callaghan, Allan Kirk and Willie Taylor played well. Brendan Wilson kicked the local side's penalty.
