From Surfers' to Waiouru for caterers

BY

PHILIPPA

FRENCH

Adamello Takeaways of Waiouru have new owners and soon will have a new name. After being in Australia for the past nine years Jim and Cherie Miller and daughter

Serena are back in Waiouru and last week took over as new owners of the Adamello takeaways situated behind the Energy Centre. Cherie and Jim have lots of new ideas for their business, one of which is to change the

name to 'Cherie's' Roadhouse. In Australia Cherie and Jim owned and managed a number of coffee shops and Roadhouses so they are not strangers to the catering trade. The food business in

Australia is quite different to New Zealand, says Jim. They have more specialised takeaways in Australia, for example just hamburger bars or just chicken shops. Their takeaway bars are very standard says Cherie. She enjoys cooking and adding her personal touch, but in Australia meals are very predictable as all the food is brought in ready prepared. As for ordering eggs with steak, says Jim, its not done. The Aussie's says "eggs are for breakfast only." Cherie and Jim met in Waiouru when Jim was a bar manager at the Oasis Hotel and Cherie was working at the 'A1 Deserto' restaurant which is now 'Kia Ora'. They are happy to be back in New Zealand with their family. The only major adjustment they had to make was coping with 4 degrees here after 40 degrees in Surfers Paradise!
