Nurses training vital

In answer to "curious" in the Bulletin July 11 re the "Seminar" being held at Waimarino Hospital one or two things need explaining. I was not holding a seminar here - I was simply taking part as a teacher for some of the time during two educational study days being held here for enrolled nurses. Similar study days have been held here at Waimarino in the past very successfully and at little or no cost to us. The study days have all been held during normal working time and staff participating in them are paid no more than their normal daily wage. For the study days in question two groups of enrolled nurses were involved - some of our own and a group from Jubilee Hospital. It makes for sound economic sense to teach two groups at once rather than teach the same things twice over.

It also makes for sound economic sense to hold study days where the best resources are and we have excellent resources here in the shape of plenty of room and accommodation. Any travel costs were incurred against Jubilee Hospital's budget and to hire a van so that every one can travel in the same vehicle is a very much cheaper option than to pay people to travel separately in their own cars. All professional4 groups and business concerns offer paid study leave to their staff. Ongoing education is vital for nurses . if skill and expertise is to be kept at an optimal level. Any costs incurred are well justified when you consider that people's health and well being are at state. I'm sure, Curious,

that if you are ever in need of health care you would like your nurses to know what they are doing.
