Hansel & Gretel?
It had to be every child's dream. A version of Hansel and Gretel faced with a house made of all sorts of goodies in the woods without the witch.
This time the 'goodies' were whole sections of chocolate and licorice, Hansel and Gretel were replaced with young actors Stacey Adams and Alexandra Smithyman, and the scene was set of a television commercial - not the lost woods. The resulting com.mercial, known as the Kentucky Fried Chicken Car Eaters is the most elaborate made for the company anywhere in the world. The compahy's ad agency dreamt up the idea for the children and their family eating their car when they couldn't wait any longer for some Kentucky Fried Chicken. So when the family is seen eating their way through the car on your TV screen its for real! The head rests were made of cake. The sun visor, door trim, car roof and painters' brush were made of chocolate. And the tyres were made of Licorice and the upholstery of rice paper. But 12 year old Stacey from Wellington found it is possible to have too much of a good thing. At the beginning of
the two days of filming he attacked his task of car eating with gutso. A few takes, and lots of chocolate and licorice later his enthusiasm had definitely faded and his consumption slowed right down.
