INTERNAL AFFAIRS OVERLOOKS $30,000

Waimarino's application for a $30,000 grant from the Incentive Grants Scheme for the council's Raetihi depot upgrade was "overlooked" by the Department of Affairs and now the Department has said the claim can't be processed because the IGS ceased to exist on 31 March 1989. Waimarino councillors called the issue "bureaucratic bungling" and voted to have the total cost to ratepayers of the last, and the next, amalgamations made public. Cr Dave Griffiths said "the ratepayer should be made aware of the costs forced on them from the first amalgamation, which was all for nought, and this next amalgamation." "Let them (the Government) be accountable in the polls," he said.
