YOUNG ARTISTS FEATURE IN OHAKUNE ART AWARDS
This year's Ohakune Art Awards will offer a special prize to young artists aged 16-25 years old. The prize, the Bames Young Artist Award, is aimed at encouraging young artists in the Awards' area, which covers from Levin in the south to Hamilton in the north. The conveners of the competition say generous sponsorship has enabled substantial awards to be offered in each category including works in oils, water colour and mixed media. The premier award in the competition is worth $2000 and $500 is available to the best entry in each category as well as entries in the "Life Studies" section. There is also an award for the best entry from a Waimarino artist. Ohakune Primary School's hall is to be the venue for the event, the 11th such exhibition, which runs from Monday 4 September to Saturday 9 September, 10am to 12pm. Schedules for the Awards are available from libraries or from: The Convener, 49A Arawa Street, Ohakune.
