Recruits finish basic training

Sapper McCullum took the 'Best Recruit' prize at the end-of-course parade at Waiouru Training Camp last week. Two females and 22 males ranging in age from 18-25 years, from all parts of New Zealand, completed their basic training. The recruits now go on to take up their specialised training in respective fields and while some will be remaining in Waiouru most are leaving for other Army bases around New Zealand. The ten week's training included physical training, weapons training, field and navigation work, shooting and personal administration. Individual prizes were awarded as follows: Best recruit, Sapper McCullum; Most improved recruit, Trooper Craig; Best shot, Private Flyger; Cross country, Private Hills. Section prizes were: Obstacle course, Section three (Driver Gillard received trophy fTlon behalf of Section //three); Drill, Section -"iwo (Sapper Butler received trophy on behalf of Section two); Best barracks, Room 2 (Sigs

Baguley received trophy on behalf of Room two). improved recruit, Trooper Craig; Best shot, Private Flyger;
