Trees stolen

Sixteen small trees "walked" last week from an Arawa Street, Ohakune garden. Police were called to Ohakune Principal Ellen Gould's residence last week after 16 small conifer trees were found to have been dug up and taken.

Mrs Gould said the trees, all easily identifiable, had been carefully removed sometime Wednesday night or Thursday morning. She said the theft was a "totally lousy thing to do". The trees were valuable and had been planted about a year ago. Mrs Gould said the thieves had been very selective, having taken unique, expensive examples and that she was sure they had been taken for replanting. She said they were miniature conifers, some golden, some green tinged with silver and some orange gold.
