Ski music starts with the Warratahs

It may be cold outside but inside Hot Lava tomorrow night the Warratahs will be "To Hot to Sleep" -that's the name of their latest album.

The country group have started touring this month to promote the album, visiting places they've visited frequently over the past four years. As More magazine put it "The Warratahs reach down and stir up the oldest memories for those of us who've grown up in New

Zealand... it's music that actually makes you smile". The group are Barry Saunders on guitar and vocals, Wayne Mason on piano and vocals, Nick Brown on fiddle, Clint Brown on bass and vocals and Rob ClarksOn on drums. They've played recently supporting acts

like Billy Joel and Randy Travis, and are regularly invited to country music clubs as special guests. Truda and the Sugar Babies Truda and the Sugar Babies play their 'passion rock' at Hot Lava this Thursday and Friday nights. Passion rock is letting the mood dictate, driving the beat or slowing it down, and playing with powerful

melodics and "driving the blues home, laying country right on the line and taking rock to town." The group' s pedegrees feature names such as the Hammond Gamble Band, Ladies Sing the Blues, Valentinos, Eurogliders and Roger Fox. Formed in December 1988, they have been regulars at the Gluepot's Corner Bar, pulling bigger and big-

ger crowds and establishing a highly enthusiastic following. The rhythm section features the twin guitar sound of Mike Vaughan and Paul Jameison whose musical arguments and duels draw

much audience appreciation. Kenny Pearson plays bass, and Euan Laycock ties up the combo on drums. Truda Chadwick is described as one of the best vocalists in the

country and has worked mainly as a soloist over recent years, sitting in with blues bands, R&B bands and supporting the likes of Roy Buchannan and Clarence Gatemouth ^Brown.
