Steam train colouring comp winners

More than 100 entries were received in the steam train colouring-in competition run by the Taumarunui and Bis-

trict Promotions and Development Association in association with the Taumarunui Gazette, to ceiebrate the

50th birthday of KA 945. Judges for the competition, Jenny Cosford and Dot Hight were originally to have picked only two winners, in their respective age groups, to ride on the train to Ohakune on Sunday but, thanks to further sponsorship from Steam Incorporated of Paekakariki, a total of eight children received prizes. Even then it was hard picking the finalists in both age groups - up to and including 10 years and over 11 years. The two outright winners who were presented with train tickets were Andrew Old (12) and Kerry Bell (9). The 11-plus winners who were presented with a hook about steam trains from Steam Incorporated were Damien Blake, Brenda Homersham, Leah Boyd and Kelly Herman. The 10-and-under winners who were presented with commemorative KA 945 badges were Hannan Stevenson, Tia Wilson, Nikki Carmichael and Lance Tibby. Their winning entries were displayed on Taumarunui's railway station platform during Queen's Birthday weekend when KA 945 returned 'home' for her birthday celebrations.
