Since accepting the position as Information Officer, I have enjoyed an exciting and stimulating three months.

I have helped judge Youthhaven Christian Camp's Logo Letterhead Competition, co-ordi-nated the joint promotion of the Ruapehu region stand and participated at Auckland Snow Show; attended the opening of Access Promotions Day guided tour of Manu Ariki Marae, and co-ordinated Taumarunui's birthday celebration of Ka 945 at Queen's Birthday Weekend. Preparations for the Snow Show began in mid-April. Army Museum staff worked on improving the display we had used for Wellington travel trade, and enlarged it to dou-

ble the stand size. The Snow Show itself was well organised, with many exhibitors going to great expense to promote their businesses. Whakapapa had their newly arrived snow groomer, which left its mark on the concrete floor, as well as a magician who kept the crowd amused. 'Ski Yer Heart Out' had an erupting volcano which occasionally completely enveloped them and us from sight, and a very entertaining Simon Wi Rutene. The ski ramp and fashion parade were very popular with Piz-

zaz making a real hit with their hand-painted, very colourful sweatshirts. Unfortunately, a few exhibitors I spoke to felt the show lacked something, that it was time for a change, to help attract the Auckland crowd. ent, and drew a lot of attention. The people I spoke to understood and knew of the skiing industry and what it had to offer, but few knew of the many varied alternative activities that our region has to offer for both summer and winter.
