Midwife describes role

Libby Tuthill was the guest speaker at the Waiouru sub Branch Pfunket Annual General Meeting held last Tuesday at the Community Centre super rooms. Special guests attending the meeting included the Patroness Kathy Sinclair, the Taihape branch President Sheriyan Ramsey, and Taihape Branch Treasurer Jenny Jones. Mr Henry Wichman was re-elected as Waiouru Branch President - a position he has held since March this year. Libby Tuthill talked to the meeting on her new role as community midwife, the position she took on last Monday. Her new duties include visiting pregnant mothers, providing ante natal and mother craft classes as well as visiting mothers and babies after discharge from hospital. She went on to answer a variety of questions from the meeting mostly in regard to the closure of the Maternity Annex and

its effect on the Waiouru people. The Plunkel nurse's report expressed concern at the number of children seen outside without suitable hats especially now the cooler weather has arqjved. A general discussion on the purchase of digital scales took place and it was decided they would be worthwhile for accuracy of weighing not only small babies but also toddlers and pre schoolers. The meeting closed at 8.55pm.
