TUWHARETOA HEARD ON SKI LIFT ISSUE

Ruapehu Alpine Lifts' application to build a chairlift to a height 65 metres above the present Whakapapa skifield boundary is still some way from a decision. The National Parks and Reserves Authority has received a submission from the Tuwharetoa Trust Board, expressing concern at the possible raising of the skifield boundary. The proposed lift height would fall inside the boundary of the original area given to the people of New Zealand as their first national park by the Tuwharetoa people.
