Under 19's win close battle

Ohakune-Karioi Under 19's clashed with Wanganui Pirates, at Wanganui on Saturday. Ohakune started off on the right foot, putting pressure on Wanganui within the first minute of play with a penalty kicked by M. Donghi. They were unlucky not to score on two occasions when the team took the wrong options. After 15 minutes Ohakune seemed to lose their grip on the game

and Pirates started to dictate terms. For the rest of the first half Ohakune were desperate on defence. The second half with the wind at their backs, Ohakune put the pressure on Pirates with backs and forwards combining well. This was short lived and once again tries went begging with the line at their mercy. Pirates forwards tightened up their game, scored the only

try of the match and held on to a 4-3 victory. Ohakune, with some good individual performances, lacked the usual team effort. A fair result, considering the poor numbers at training. Ohakune, co-leaders with Wanganui Pirates, can still take out this competition but training is most essential. Player of the day was Shane Philips.
