Nine months jail for April burglary
John David Frederick Pikari, a 35 year-old mill hand, was jailed for nine months for burglary and theft at his appearance at the Ohakune District Court last Thursday. He had earlier pleaded guilty to the offences from between April 3 and 11. In convicting him Judge Unwin said Pikari had appeared in court four times last year. Case withdrawn A case against Steven Charles Pui, 18, was withdrawn by police at the Ohakune District Court last Thursday. Mr Pui had pleaded guilty to a charge of burglary but the police withdrew the charge, because they could prove that Mr Pui had not committed the offence, Sgt Russell England told the Bulletin last week. Indecent assault Two men were convicted on indecent assault charges last Thursday. The incidents occurred at a swimming hole at Raetihi, where a group of young girls arrived for a swim after a group of three men had been drinking there. James Dean Ohlson, a 24 year-old unem-
ployed man, was jailed for three months for indecently assaulting a girl on January 5. He was found guilty after a defended hearing last month. Stephen Patrick Munro, an unemployed shed hand, 18, was convicted and sentenced to six months1 community care. He had earlier pleaded guilty to the charges of indecently assaulting two girls, 13 and 14 year old and disorderly behaviour on January 5, and growing cannabis. Three of the six months were to be spent in residential care. Paul Brown appeared for Munro and Duncan Harvey appeared for Ohlson. No firearm licence David Herewini received a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to a charge of being in possession of a firearm without a licence. The 35 year-old Ohakune production foreman pleaded guilty to the March 2 offence.
Along with the conviction and six month suspended sentence Herewini was ordered to pay $50 costs. Paul Brown appeared. Burglary Aaron Tremaine Horne was convicted and fined $500 after pleading guilty to a June 18 burglary offence. Horne, 21, a scrubcutter, also pleaded guilty to two car conversion charges, failing to supply his name and address and driving while disqualified, He was convicted and placed under supervision for 12 months and disqualified from driving for 12 months for the driving charges. Public urination George Pekamu pleaded guilty to urinating in a public place on May 1. The builder's labourer, 21, was found by police urinating outside the Ohakune Hotel lounge bar entrance.
Pekamu was convicted and fined $100 and, in default of immediate payment, 21 days' imprisonment. His counsel was Mr Brown. Disqualified driver James Manuel Honana, 24, unemployed, pleaded guilty to three disqualified driving charges. Honana had been disqualified for 12 months on September 15 and was twice seen driving on April 21, and again on May 4. He was convicted and remanded until June 22 for a probation report and sentence. No licence Richard Dean Mareikura, 17, Access student, was convicted and discharged for driving having never held a licence. Since the offence on December 18 he has gained his drivers' licence. Drunken driver Kevin Richard
Robinson, 29, pleaded guilty to driving with an excess breath alcohol level of 600:1 on January 6, and was fined $600. He was disqualified from driving for six months. Petrol theft A seventeen year old market g arden labourer pleaded guilty to a charge of theft and was convicted and fined $140, ordered to pay reparation of $10 and, in default of immediate payment, ordered to spend 30 days in jail. On April 9 Evans and an associate stole
petrol from a farm property. Disqualified driver William Stewart Clark was disqualified from driving for nine months from September 15, 1988, but was seen driving from the Ohakune rubbish dump on April 16. Clark, 31, self employed pleaded guilty to the charge of driving while disqualified and was convicted and fined $250 and disqualified for a further 60 days. Burglary Kani Brown Shortland, 17, unemployed,
pleaded guilty to a burglary that occurred between April 4 and May 2. He was convicted and remanded to appear in the Kaikohe District Court and a later date. Not guilty plea A 34 year-old solo father pleaded not guilty to a charge of wilful damage on May 16. Rex Colin Newman was remanded until June 22 for a defended hearing. Sergeant Russell England appeared for the police, arid court costs were set at $65 unless otherwise stated.
