Costs cut for Rangitikei ratepayers
Estimates for expenditure have been discussed by the Rangitikei County and councillors say ratepayers can look forward to a minimal increase in rates this year.
That prediction follows a cost cutting exercise at a recent meeting of the Council - $210,000 was chopped off the general rate requirement by changing estimates across a range of areas. A $100.00 operating surplus was put to general rates, as was a $46,000 housing surplus. The stationery budget was cut by $20,000 and $50,000 trimmed off the contingency fund. f The estimated $175,000 special amalgamation budget was included in the es-
timates without adding to the rate burden. Overall the County's expenditure will be less than last year's $12 million. The Council will spend $4,803,000 on roading this year but ratepayers will have, to find only about $ 1.8m - less than last year's $2.1m. Councillor Vicky Duncan congratulated Council staff on the management of the County's resources. Last year Councils' overall expenditure was down 3 % and revenue up 4% - the result of tight financial control, she said.
