Valuable experience for Waimarino riders
Five tired Waimarino riders and horses returned from Wanaka last week, after eight gruelling days at the National Pony Club Championships.
The King Country team made up of three Raetihi and two Ohakune riders, had mixed success at the event. Team captain Tania Taylor on Count Donegal enjoyed individual success, being placed second in the dressage and second overall. The team scored high in
horse management but did not take the top - spot. The overall winner of the competition was the Taranaki Pony Club. Team trainer Roie McGill and manager, Merv Williams, accom-
panied the youngsters to the competition. Mr Williams stayed on for the South Island Dog Trials at Amuri, later
this month. Raetihi rider Cindy Langdon said the team gained a lot of experience from the three day competition that attracted Pony Club teams from around the country.
The group managed to combine sight-see-ing with training and competition, visiting Arrowtown and other points of interest in the area.
The team consisted of Rodney McCoubrie, Maria Fredericksen, Cindy Langdon, Fiona Evans and Tania Taylor.
