POLICE SET ROAD BLOCKS TO CATCH KILLERS

Ohakune and Raetihi Police were on duty Sunday night staging road blocks on State Highway 4, after the shooting of a Manunui service station owner earlier on Sunday Police were at the intersection of Tohunga and Valley Roads northwest of the township, stopping north and south-bound traffic from 8.15pm to midnight. The killers of Manunui man Murray Shields, were believed to be still in the region, with the scene of the incident frozen.Road blocks were also set up at National Park, Turangi, Taumarunui and Waiouru. Ohakune Police Sergeant Russell England, said there was a steady stream of traffic as holiday makers headed home after the May school holiday break. All motorists that were stopped were friendly and helpful, he said.
