New business caters for all tastes

A shop that sells "a little bit of everything" opens today in Ohakune. Proprietors Pru and Gavin Knight are open for business in the

former Sheepskin Shop, appropriately renamed 'Knic-Knacs'. The mother and son duo have big plans for their business that combines low price

new and quality secondhand goods. The Knights recently sold their business 'Far End Trading' in Taihape and combined finances to open a similar outlet in Ohakune. Former New World storeman and shop assistant Gavin, will manage the business while Mrs Knight, a qualified florist, puts her talents towards producing floral baskets to sell in the shop. Said Gavin: "We're aiming to sell a high standard of new crockery, kitchenWare, baskets and lots of other goods. All our new stock comes from warehouses and wholesalers, so we can buy and sell cheaper." The shop also sells second-hand magazines, records, books and a small range of ski suits, jackets and children's clothing. Gavin also intends to sell local arts and crafts on a commission basis. The Knights have an interim lease on the

premises until March next year. Plans include re-vamping the shop's interior which includes a new coat of paint and additional shelving for display purposes. The Knights also have the g arden gnome and terrarium markets covered, dealing direct with private manufacturers. Terrariums are made to order in a variety ot shapes and sizes and priced accordingly. Gavin is enthusiastic about the business which, he says enables him to keep in touch with the community. Customers today will receive complimentary champagne, "but only while it lasts", adds Gavin.
