Pirates on rampage

It was a bleak weekend for Ohakune-Karioi players when they faced Wanganui Pirates.

Ohakune-Karioi v Pirates

Ohakune was on the receiving end of Wanganui Pirates' wrath. Pirates were in deadly form, beating OK 5611. Ohakune prop Bernie Condon and forward Richard Matthews performed well for the

team. Whetu Mareikura and Brendon Wilson scored tries, with Brendon Wilson scor-ing a penalty goal.

Raetihi v Kaierau

Kaierau proved too strong for Raetihi when the two teams faced each other on Saturday. Raetihi came back against Kaierau who lead the match 6-0 at half time, but were finally beaten 15-4 by Kaierau. Thomas Waara scored Raetihi's only try.

Ohakune-Karioi has taken the lead in the Wanganui Under-19 Rugby competition, with a good win against co-leaders Wanganui Pirates on the weekend. In ideal playing conditions Ohakune forwards had control of the game up front. Wanganui Pirates backs were enterprising but demonstrated some poor tackling. Ohakune backs and

forwards combined well in scoring their three tries, scored by players S. Philips, B. Mason and S. Nepe. A penalty and conversion were kicked by M. Donghi. Wanganui scored one try and a penalty goal. Final score, OhakuneKarioi 17, Pirates 7. Player of the match was B. Mason. Ohakune play Marist at Wanganui next Saturday.
