One of New Zealand's rising skiing stars - Waimarino man Chris Mosaed - is enjoying growing success in the world of competition skiing, both here and overseas.
Chris Mosaed recently returned from six month's intensive ski training in Austria and Vail, Colorado where he competed in the Skiing World Championships from January 28 through February 12. He competed in the slalom and giant slalom against some of the world's best skiers and finished 28th. He also competed in the FIS Series held in February, gaining two 5th placings in the slalom and a 7th in the GS. Chris has competed on the international circuit since 1980 when he was selected for the New Zealand national 'B' ski team. He has been on the nation's 'A' team for the past three years. For the past eight years he has spent New Zealand summer months in America, Canada and Europe, in training for national and international competitions. He returned to the Waimarino earlier this month for further ski and dry land training,
in preparation for the country's FIS Series in August and the National Championships on Mt Ruapehu in September. He will also be competing in the first World Cup races held in New South Wales, Australia in August, in the slalom and giant slalom. His sights are firmly set on winning the New Zealand Nationals and in the lead-up to the event is involved in intense training that includes working with weights, hill running and biking. While overseas his snow training included running gates and developing his technique through free skiing under world class instructor Sepp Brunner. The training is paying off for Chris, who is now one of the top three ranking skiers in New Zealand along with Olympic skier Simon Wi Rutene, and Matius Hubrich. When not on the slopes, Chris works in the family's wool broking business in
