TDPDA Gains Another Information Officer
This district is one of the best adventure playgrounds in New Zealand and promoting that idea is Taumarunui's second promotions officer, Jenny Cosford. Jenny joins Aroha Rudkin in running the Taumarunui and District Promotion and Development Association, as a part time information officer. She'll work about three hours a day, five days a week, answering questions of people who visit the area and people who plan to visit. Sorting out problems and how to get the most out of their visit is also part of her brief. The part time nature of her job fits in well with being a mother, says Mrs Cosford She says more and more tourists are looking to this area as it is such a rich district for
outdoor activities. They come for the activities that are possible in the area's bush, the rivers and on the mountains, says Jenny. To encourage people to stop here there needs to be things to make them want to stay, such as a special activity or some visual attraction. She mentions the Heritage Trail from Stratford to Taumarunui as a draw-card for visitors. There are similarities between her new job and nursing, the career she was working in before becoming a mother, says Jenny, in that she's dealing with people. But the challenge of working at promotions is in the differences. Jenny Cosford is Taumarunui born and bred giving her good local knowledge and she says there aren't too many questions she hasn't been able to answer.
