ARMY STORES SEIZED POACHERS' CHOPPERS

Two confiscated helicopters spent time in Army hands at Waiouru recently after being seized for alleged poaching on April 6. The Army provided secure storage for the machines which were seized by Department of Conservation officers, one in the Tarawera area and one in the Mangakino area. Among charges laid against a number of alleged offenders are for illegal deer recovery, transportation of hunters onto private land without the owner's consent and assaulting a DoC officer. The aircraft were from Auckland and Palmerston North and the pilots from different locations, none from the Ruapehu area.
