ROTARY DROPPING TREES

Local Rotarians are to carry out the felling and disposal of a group of dead trees in the Raetihi reserve near the cemetery. DoC officer Ian Heaphy suggested to the Waimarino District Council that the trees be felled and milled if suitable and, after consulting Rotary, suggested the service group carry out the job. Mr Heaphy said the Matais and Kahikateas would eventually become a danger to the public if left and that they were an eyesore at present. DoC will supervise the project, he said, and timber not millable will be distributed by Rotary as firewood. Rotary fundraising will benefit from the work of its members if the timber is millable with some money being returned to the council reserves fund, said Mr Heaphy. He said it was a legal requirement that profit from such an activity associated with a reserve should go to the reserve's fund.
