40 years of Raetihi gardens
A disappointing few attended the occasion of the Raetihi Garden Club's 40th anniversary, celebrated by a luncheon at the Waimarino Club on Saturday. Garden Club president Locheen Punch said numerous apologies were received from former members who were unable to be present at the get-together, where memorabilia including photographs and the club's original minute book were on show. Mrs Punch said the club was unable to send written invitations to former members due to limited finances, so relied on word-of-mouth. Of the 15-20 in attendance, two were original founding members of the club. Mrs Evelyn Bowater and Mrs Kay Pearson were in the 35 strong group that attended the very first formation meeting of the Raetihi Garden Club on April 24, 1949 and shared in the celebrations of the club's 40th anniversary.
