40 YEARS OF GARDENING CELEBRATED THIS MONTH

The Raetihi Garden Club celebrates the 40th anniversary of their first committee meeting, on April 24 1949, this week with a luncheon for past and present members at the Waimarino Club hall on Saturday April 29. The day will be devoted to nostalgia - original minute books, old photos, etc will be on display throughout the afternoon. A meeting was held to form the club in March 1949 and 35 residents payed their subscriptions to become the club's founding members. Three of those original members, Mesdames E. Bowater, O. Frew and D. Berry, are still living in the region. The club's first president was Mrs J. Donnelly.
