School voting

Saturday April 29 at noon is your last chance to vote for the people you want on the Board of Trustees for your children's school.

All schools in the Ruapehu Bulletin area have received more nominations than the five places on each board, so all require an election. The Bulletin was unahi e to get profiles on all 70-plus primary school nominess, but we are able to publish profiles on all the Ruapehu College nominees. Andrew Allen I come from this district originally. After a 20 year career in Forestry (most recently doing advisory work in Canterbury) I returned here with my family two years ago and am now farming at Raetihi. I have one son at the College now and another to start next year. I was recently appointed to the current Board of Governors and have some experience in this area. Michael Cleary I am aged 42, married with three children. I was born and brought up in Ohakune, attended Ohakune Convent School and Ruapehu College. At present I work for Winston Pulp International as a leading hand. I am Chairman of the

local branch of the NZ Pulp and Paper Union and am on the Wanganui District Council of Combined Trade Unions and also on the Wanganui Regional Employment and Access committee. I am standing for the, College Board of Trustees because of my concern for the standard of education for my children. Bronva Meyer I have lived in the Waimarino for nearly 25 years. I am married and am a farming partner. We have five children. My three eldest children were educated here at Ruapehu College and my youngest daughtcr is in the 6th form. I have had considerable experience in school administration, firstly at Raetihi Primary on the PTA as a member and then as Chairperson. then when the children went on to College I involved myself on the PTA and the last five years I have been a member of the Board of Governors and am currently Board Chairperson so I feel that I know what would be expected of me on the new Board of

Trustees. I certainly don't see this new transition as something that will just happen. I expect the first three years to be a learning and negotiating time. I hope that we will be able to see aninput from the three communities plus the Maori community that serve this college, namely Waiouru, Ohakune and Raetihi. I feel I will be able to work with the Principal and Deputy Principal and staff very comfortably, with the knowledge that this college will continue to grow academically as it has in the last few years. Laurie Knight I am 48 years old and father of four children, one of whom is currently enrolled at the College. This is currently my second year as Chairman of the College PTA. I have been an active and involved member in the education process, from night school tutor, to Chairman of the Clairville School committee for nine years, to engineering and technical teacher and now caretaker at the College. I have taken an active part in other committees and organisations including execuTurnpage 3
