This picture, taken in 1938, shows Ruapehu from the south in Summer. It matches one published in the Bulletin earlier this year which was though to show Ruapehu at its barest. While the glaciers are longer, they appear to be no thicker, and there is very little "dead" snow, for example Glyding Gladys is almost non-existant.
