Moteliers invest in Ohakune future

A new bistro style restaurant is to be part of the Alpine Motel in Miro Street Ohakune this winter.

The building work going on at the motel now includes the restaurant and guest lounge, a self contained flat for partner Greg Quick and a residence upstairs for Larry and

Cheryl Julius and their daughter Holly. The three bought the motel Autumn last year and have been operating it together since then. The bistro, which is

yet to be given a name will be run by the trio. It will provide casual dining for motel guests and others in the style of a European cafe. Such simple fare as Lasagne and other Italian pasta dishes, mousaka, steaks and quiches will make up the menu.

Cheryl and Larry have worked in the catering business before, in British pubs which often provide the type of menu they are planning. They have applied for a tourist house licence for the bistro and expect an answer any

time now. As far as they know, no objections to the application were received. They've been happy running their ski town motel so far, despite last year's sad season. "We had nothing to compare it (last winter) with," said Larry "It doesn't take much to

fill us up." The motel has six units and two chalets, providing 39 beds. The three said they're very happy with the work of the builders who are working on the project.

Larry said John Porter and Pete Craig have put a lot of effort into the motel extensions and that they've always been open to suggestions from the motelliers on changes to the project.
