Minor league golf

A Minor League Golf Championship game was played at Pearce Park in Waiouru on Saturday. A total of 21 youngsters ranging in age from seven to fourteen played two rounds of nine holes in brilliant weather.

Comments from seven year old Cameron Ridler, the youngest member, such as "massive, the best day of golf I've ever played," seemed to sum up the thoughts of the young players. The sponsors for this championship were Waiouru Motors, Ruapehu Country Club, New Zealand Golf

Foundation and the Army Garrison Institute. A number of prizes were awarded to the 17 boys and four girls who took part in the Championship at an after match party held in the Club Rooms. Prize winners were: Gold Division best gross, Geoffrey Pitts; Gold Division runner up gross, Steven Pitts;

Gold Division best nett, Daniel Isherwood; Silver Division best gross, Brian Edwards; Silver Division best nett, Rebecca Hughes; Silver Division runner up nett, Heath Faulkner; Stableford best AM, Mark Overton; Stableford best PM, Chad Hughes; Stableford 1st, Ricky Newland; Stableford 2nd, Jason Lawrence; Stableford 3rd, Richard Hughes; Best Sporting Golfer, Cameron Ridler. The prizes were presented by the wife of the Patron, Mrs Kate Sinclair.
