Small business arithmetic
I have been trying in my poor muddled way to follow the involved machinations of the RSBA in their intentions towards the future of the Junction Railway Station. It appears they want a grant of either $20,000 (earlier edition
of the B ulletin) or $12,000 (April 4), for a feasibility study to upgrade part of this 'Quaint Slum' at the Junction. What they really want, it appears is a form of expensive dole for unemployed business people.
Save your application chums, I will give you a study for free. The indication of improvement shown will cost between $350,000$500,000 with a desired return requirement on investment of about $80,000 discounting any return of capital, it
will require salaries of $40,000-$60,000 excluding vehicle expenses, maintenance, rates, fuel electricity and other running costs of $8,000-$12,000. Basically you are up for $150,000 a year, so you had better start asking around to see
who gets that sort of dough from a small business in the Waimarino these days. Please, do not ask the ratepayers for yet another subsidy - the rates are already far too
high.
