POLICE & PIGEON POST

We're going to have to break our promise to the local police about laying off the gossip on them because this story is good news - and there's not much of that sort about these days. An Ohakune constable is reportedly working on an alternative postal system to challenge the monopoly of our dear friends NZ Post. Sir is gathering a flock of pigeons to carry messages, we hear, initially between Raetihi and Ohakune. He's got a long way to go because he's only got two at the moment, and they're busy working in the top dressing industry, but we've every confidence in him. His third pigeon may be harder to get hold of because it's got friends. Kitchen staff at Waimarino Hospital have adopted the potential aerial postie and have been feeding him scraps. Apparently the pigeon was blown off course. (Knowing our Sir, it could get blown off the roof if its not careful!)
