Huge support for annex
Waiouru residents are almost totally in favour of the town's maternity annex staying open.
A house to house survey of residents was answered with 398 replies and 99 per cent said they were in favour of the annex staying open. The closure would have a detrimental effect on medical and
pharmacy facilities, according to 98 per cent of respondents. A Waiouru Maternity Annex committee spokesperson said they were amazed at the positive response. Fifteen per cent of respondents said they
did not own cars - a figure which the Committee says shows how dependent on the local centre people are. Committee representative Kate Hutchinson said the Wanganui Area Health Board wants the annex closed and expectant mothers transferred to Taihape.
