Tourism module
For the past 12 months being a tutor on this Access course has been very rewarding.
Not only did the course achieve a 100% success rate but capitalised on many social aided skills. Five trainees attended a day release programme in Wanganui receiving, after 32 weeks, a Trades certificate 75/1. Two of those trained continued with the 75/2 Trades certificate with everyone in both courses graduating. A further five trainees committed themselves to a very high-powered' course which gave each trainee an Intemational Diploma. All graduated. Apart from receiving recognised Certificates
each trainee was given practical on-the-job training at running a coffee-shop operation. This included the preparation and making of all commodities right through to marketing and presentation. Ti kanga maori skills were also an interesting addition to the skills learnt. There were those trainees who were familiar and those who enjoyed the exposure to the maori culture. The next course to begin in April will be offering the opportunity for any uncmployed persons to engage themselves in
similar activities to the current trainees. We are offering basic cooking classes, through to advanced for the person with a goal.
