Transist house opens in Waiouru
Due to open soon for transferring Army families is a transit house in the Waiouru residential area.
The need for such a house was identified approximately four months ago and since then the refurbishment of a house close to the Community Centre has taken place. It will be a fully furnished house. The establishment of a transit house is because available accommodation in Waiouru is unsuitable for young families. The cost involved to the Army in this type of accommodation is also a factor. The number of people moving into and out of Waiouru consists, on average, of one family per day on a five day
week basis. This type of accommodation is seen to be a necessity because a busy family will be able to relax once the shift in or out is finished without the additional need to clean a motel/hotel room - the family will also be in the camp area - for greater convenience. The hours of occupation will be those similar to a motel/hotel leaving at 10am, and arrival at 2pm. This transit house is the only one available to Army personnel in the country and it will initially be run on an experimental basis.
