FIRE FIGHTER LIGHTER

More wasps and firemen this week - with Deputy Fire Chief Ben Goddard reported to have recently shown pyromaniacal tendencies. Our man Ben was attempting to destroy a wasp nest at his place by pouring petrol down the hole. He couldn't resist the temptation to light the petrol, even though for effect it's apparently better to leave the fumes to do the damage. Trouble ensued when the grass around caught fire and his garden hose didn't quite reach. The fire managed to quench itself before Ben needed to call his mates though. Footnote: Gossip's been told through a staff member that wasps have been known to leave their stings. (recently Gossip claimed that they don't). Budding amateur entomologist June Nonamesplease told us that the social hymenopterous insects do sometimes leave their stings behind. She knows because one left its stinp in her neck!
