Junior golf

Attention all Primary and Secondary children in Waiouru - minor league golf has started again at the Waiouru Golf Club.

No experience or knowledge of golf is necessary just the wish to play the game, say organisers of the league. Cut-down clubs are available and the fundamentals of the game are taught by senior members of the club. Craig Owen, a golf professional with the NZ Golf Foundation visits from time to time and gives lessons free of charge. The children play on a specially designed course, they have their own cards and handicapping system and are supervised at all times. Membership for the remainder of the season (till end of June) is five dollars. A fee of $1.00

is charged each Sunday which includes 50c for competitions (optional) and 50c hire of clubs. League players should be at the course at 1.15 pm to tee off at 1.30 pm. Enquires should be made to Mrs Pam Hughes, 19 Weir Terrace, Phone 56-139. Results from play on February 19 1989: Gold Division, 1st Geoffrey Pitts (Nett 26); Silver Division, 1st Heath Faulkner (Nett 30); 2nd Rebecca Hughes (Nett 35); 3rd Cheryl Vercoe (Nett 35). H'Cap Reductions: Cheryl Vercoe, 14; Rebecca Hughes, 16; Heath Faulkner, 12; Geoffrey Pitts, 1.
