Keen competition in Pony club event

A frosty morning greeted 70 riders at Rokes property for the Waimarino Pony Club's One Day Event and Second Area Trials on Sunday February 26.

Good fields in all classes resulted in some

keen competition. A first-ever "led pony" section allowed some very young riders the opportunity of competing, but unfortunately none managed to complete the full course. Introductory classes saw a first equal placing in the dressage phase between Vanessa Enright and Richard Guy. Vanessa managed to

keep out in front in the rest of the competition and finished first overall. Pre-training class saw clear winners in all phases with Jane Wickham placed first and

Melanie Mitchell second. Training class was a mixed bag with seven riders not completing the cross-country phase. Riders were competing for selection for a

Waimarino team to go to the Timberlands event in Tokoroa in April, and some upgraded riders found some of the newer jumps quite formidable.
