First aider disgusted at poor response to class

I am disgusted with the response from the general public of the Waimarino, both male and female, at the attendance at the First Aid Classes being held both in Raetihi and Ohakune by the St John Ambulance and the Red Cross. Once again you are leaving it to the few to carry on. Maybe it is that you think it won't happen to you or that you won't need to know anything? Or is it that if someone is hurt you will just turn your back on them and walk

away? Maybe there is just not going to be any football, netball or skiing or other sports so you don't need the few First Aiders so it won't be long before we won't need the hospitals, because no one will be getting hurt or having heart attacks? This is my last year for taking First Aid Classes. Maybe you think that $40.00 is too much to be able to save a life? Do you want First Aiders at your sports games? If so do some-

thing about it by sending your coaches, managers or someone from your club or your ski patrol to the First Aid Classes in the Fire Brigade Hall Wednesday night 7.30, Ohakune.

St John Ambulance Ohakune Rolling in it How delightful to learn in this week's issue of the 'Bulletin' something that many of

us have been trying to find out for years. Namely, how to get rich quick without working for it. It took the Waimarino District

Council to show us the way. Come on all you guys who supply goods and services to the Council. Just slap on a 2000% levy for late payment of accounts. Judging by the three months it took them to

settle our last one we should all be rolling in by 1990.

The Two Spoons

Headline disputed I am writing to object strongly to the headline in last week's Bulletin "Contractor

Complains". This was over a story about the Pipiriki sewerage scheme and my company's dealings with the District Council. We were not complaining but rather objecting to the manner in which we first heard from council staff that we were to be penalised for not completing the contract on time. As we have explained, there are legitimate reasons for this. Our concern is that we first heard about the matter by reading a report in the Bulletin. We feel council should have had the decency to approach us first. After all, it was first a matter of business between us and the council.
