Sponsor a soldier

A sponsorship scheme for regular force cadets is to be run again this year. The scheme involves families sponsoring one of the more than 70 cadets, aged between 16 1/2 and 17 1/2, enrolled at Waiouru who would appreciate a short break away from normal duties. Many of the cadets'

homes are too far away for them to return to for their two-day leave periods, and the sponsorship scheme gives them an informal "home away from home" environment and helps them to develop as good citizens. Activities a sponsor family and a cadet would do could include: staying at home for a

family meal; outmgs and visits around the local area such as skiing, fishing, shopping; relaxing at home and helping out with some of the chores. Scheme organisers would remind sponsor families that cadets are not available as permanent babysitters, wood choppers or gardeners. The scheme starts in April and runs until December. Interested families can contact Major Stuart Gray 56111 ext 586.
