Staff of the Waiouru Army Museum have been busy making a full scale model of a Father Tank during recent weeks. The tank measures 31 feet long, 18 feet wide, eight feet to the top of the track and 10 feet at the highest point. The tank will star in an advertisment to promote the 1990 Commonwealth Games. The original tank was used during World War One and carried eight personnel. The model was made from old packing cases by Lance Corporal Rip Ripia, W02 Dave Fitzwater and other museum staff, over a period of seven to ten days. Donated to the museum by MSD Spiers and GM Motors, the packing cases took a great deal of time and effort to break down before the actual construction of the tank could take place, said
staff. Friday February 24 saw Rip Ripia and Dave Fitzwater putting the finishing touches to the model, prior to its
leaving Waiouru northbound to Auckland for the advertisment filming along with several other artifacts loaned by the museum.
