Action packed fun

Waiouru Desert Fair organisers have released news of some of this year's fair activities to whet your appetite.

In the main arena one of the Army bands will herald the start of festivities. Suddenly skyhawks will appear to do a 'reconnaissance of enemy territory' and then the Army and Arforce will 'battle' to secure the land. The Commander, the host for the fair, will be choppered in to officially open the day then all troops will be evacuated via various means. Aerobatics and par achu ting/sky di v ing will take place in the afternoon, then its competition time with the annual Tug-of-war. National celebrities are timetabled to finish the day on a high point. Members of the Kiwis Rugby League team will contest against Waiouru's best in three seven-a-side games and national woodchoppers will display their skill.

Around the rest of the fair there will be plenty to do in the scheduled free time. From the response received so far there will be a wide variety of stalls available. However there is still plenty of space for more - if you would like to have a stall or sponsor a sideshow, ring: Sgt May, 4 Composite Squadron, Telephone: (0658) 56111 extension 695/696. Along side the stalls will be sideshows, Top Town events and amusements and displays and rides. To cap it all off there will be a monster raffle running throughout the day. To enter all you will have to do is buy a programme at the gate for $1.00 which gives you a chance to win prizes, the lucky numbers announced every half hour. For just 50 cents for

children and $2.00 for adults the Army promise a whole day of "sheer action-packed excitement". "A small price to pay considering all the proceeds are going to community support programmes or clubs", says Desert fair Publicity Officer Lft / Rhonda Balsom.
