Hospital praised
May I, through your newspaper, tell this community of a very special and wonderful asset that we have in the Waimarino region - the Waimarino Hospital. It is a small hospital by national standards but bigger is not necessarily better as Waimarino demonstrates. Over the last few years during which my mother spent considerable time in Raetihi, I have observed and experienced a care which can only be described as exceptional. Not only does the Principal Nurse and nursing staff do much more than can be reasonably expected of them, but the cleaning staff, kitchen staff and porters all show the same devoted and loving care of patients. Theirs is not just 'a job' but a service to the community, and to the patients in particular. The recognition of the physical, mental and spiritual welfare of individuals is appreciated. They demonstrate a true dignity in life. I would like to publicly thank every person who works at Waimarino Hospital or visits as a voluntary . worker for the special care they have given my mother and other patients. May I urge this community to be aware of health issues, to support our local hospital and its extended services. In this user pays society there is a danger we could forget the most important element of a person's care and that is the unconditional and unselfish love and care we all need, and which no amount of money will ever buy. Merrilyn George. Perturbed I was a wee bit perturbed to read an article in your edition dated February 21, which stated that "Waiouru's participation in this exercise was through QA Sqn" etc. This is very misleading. QA Sqn are not the only troops within this
camp. Some others had vital jobs to perform on the exercise without which the exercise could not have run. Examples are: Transport squadron participation in troop movements as well as bringing QA Sqn home; 4 Supply Company who provided stores, food for Taupo camp and satellite camps, fuel facilities and shower facilities, not to mention dealing with the Mad Bomber who cost the NZ forces dearly; Transport Sqn again who supplied cooks to feed troops; ATG Workshops who provided maintenance and repair facilities; Various storepersons who provided the soldier on the ground with his material wants through Ordnance. Please, in the future think of all those who are required to keep people like QA Sqn in the field. They cannot do it all on their own (and sometimes they cannot do it at all). Annoyed. Support Sledge Poor Sledge. All his letters are going to be submitted to the Human Rights Commission (are his letters of support going to be submitted as well?2iii—
Haven t the women from the Resource Centre heard of "Freedom of Speecl^ and Opinion?" Is it only available for people who don't "step out of line",or who "stick with the crowd"? Isn't this what our fathers and grandfathers fought two world wars for? So as President of T.U.S.S (Tight Underwear Supporters Society) I declare Wednesday March 1 as Support Sledge Day (S.S.D) All members and supporters will wear goggles at the pool and honk their horns as they drive past the community health rooms to show their whole hearted support of 'Sledge'. Sledges Fan President of T.U.S.S Apology Whoops! Looks like the Ruapehu Bulletin went through a time warp or something with last week's news item about the Raetihi Kohanga Reo group. We named the Kohanga Reo teacher as Kayla Taiaroa, but Kayla was actually the youngest member (11 months old) present at the performance for the Senior Citizens. Ngati Uenuku Kohanga Reo Kaiako is really Mrs Ripeka Taiaroa (Kay-la's grandmother).
