Waimarino riders to represent NZ, at home

Tania Taylor, a member of Ohakune Pony Club, has been selected to represent New Zealand in the Inter-Pacific competition in April this year.

She was selected from 25 candidates comprising 16 girls and nine boys between the ages of 17 and 21 years. The candidates' had already been through an elimination process in their own areas before competing in trials at Masterton in February for selection in the New Zealand team to com-

pete for the Nations Cup against teams from Canada, Japan, Hong Kong and Australia. The trials comprised riding skills, horsemastership and an interview, culminating in a team of three girls and three boys being chosen, as well as two reserves. The visiting teams arrive in Auckland on

April 8 and travel down the North Island with stops in the Waikato, Rotorua and Timberlands. They will stop off in Ohakune for lunch on April 17 en route to Flock House, where they will compete for the Nations Cup on April 22 & 23. There will also be a reunion of former members of Inter-Pa-cific Teams. Following this the teams move on to the South Island, stopping in the Nelson/Marlborough area and then on to Christchurch. The teams depart from New Zealand on May 1. Tania has had a most

successful year to date riding Count Donegal having recently passed her B Certificate, a prerequisite to selection for New Zealand and gaining a place in the King Country Dressage team for the second time. Other members of the team selected are Elizabeth Bridgeman (Canterbury), Rachel Inder (Marlborough/Nelson), Kate Holmes (Waiarapa/Wellington) Reserve, Grant Beasley (Bay of Plenty), Bruce Geard .(Northland), Christopher Ruck (Taranaki), and Craig Balsom (Franklin/Thames Valley) Reserve.
