Waiouru motel ok

Plans for a motel at Waiouru have been okayed by the Rangitikei County Council but conditions imposed may see the proiect abandoned.

Proposer of the 25 unit, $1 million motel Mr Bernard Jackson said in his submission that if certain conditions were placed on the approval it may be abandoned. The conditions restrict the size of advertising for the motel and require the developer to form and seal vehicle pull-off and merging lanes on both sides of State Highway 49 at the entrance to the motel, next to the present camping ground. In his submission Mr Jackson said he would abandon the project if

he was not allowed to advertise the motel adequately or if he had to irry out the road works which he felt were not his responsibility. Mr Jackson requested approval for advertising hoardings on all approaches to Waiouru, including State Highway 49. The signs he wanted would easily exceed the limits set out in the district scheme. The council decided it would only consider the matter of the signs as a separate application for dispensation from the scheme.
