A TRIP TO TAUPO

Most Waimarino and Waiouru people know of the attractions of Lake Taupo and more and more of us are finding out about the advantages of combining a day at the lake with time spent at Taupo town.

Just and hour and a half or so driving through some of the country's most beautiful and interesting scenery and you have a whole range of shopping opportunities in front of you. As well as shops where you can buy clothes, footwear, groceries, books and magazines - all that you would expect - there are furniture stores, a number of electrical goods shops, and a variety of specialist sports shops. Fishing and hunting are well represented and newer shops cover sports such as mountain biking, road cycling, running, windsurfing, water skiing, and tramping and camping. There are craft shops and gift shops and book shops and pet shops and hobby shops, music stores and photo stores and pharmacies and... many other stores, After you've wandered around the shops there are a number of

good eateries to suit your taste and/or pocket for some lunch, then there's the tours and trips you can take. Taupo has fishing trips and lake tours available from the marina, or scenic flights over the lake, surrounding countryside and over Tongariro National Park's peaks. More leisurely activities are available at Taupo' s parks and tourist museums if that's what you prefer. Or you can give it heaps windsurfing or water skiing the lake or mountain biking on the many tracks and trails now available for this new sport, or partaking of the more traditional Taupo activity of standing waist deep casting into the many excellent fly fishing streams that flow into Taupo Afterwards, how about a nice long, relaxing soak in the hot pools Taupo is so famous for. There's De Brett's on the Napier

Taupo highway or the AC Baths in Spa Road, not far from down town Taupo. You'll need to top

up your energy tanks after a typical day at Taupo and once again there are many restaurants to choose from.

After dinner there's bars and nightclubs too if you haven't enjoyed yourself enough already.
