■ 5 — —" Jfitly formed company" under the aoove^title commenced operations' through their aucthmeer^^riieo Snook, mt Arapoilueo'ff' September loth. At this sale cattle sold well. Calves made £2 2s 6d to £3 12s 6d, empty cows to £4, yearlings to £3 17s 6d, old cows £4 to £4 15s. A few weedy ponies came forward and sold at £2 to £2 10s.
At Matakohe on the 17th a most successful sale Avas held. All the cattle were of a splendid and heavy quality, and well bred, and included drafts from the famous runs of Messrs Smith Bros, and Messrs Coates Bros. The feature of these cattle Avas that they were a very even lot. Nearly 500 sold under the hammer at big prices. The principal buyers of these cattle were Messrs Boss, Wilson, Johnson and McLean, all well-known dealers, and as the cattle are destined for Auckland they will do much towards demonstrating the advantages of the North for producing cattle in a forward condition early in the spring. One pen of 63 steers realised £7 17s each. Prices ruled : Grown steers £6 15s, £9 5s to £12 10s, springers £6' to £6 10s, working bullocks to £9 ss. Few calves came forward but all sold at good prices.
At Maungaturoto the sale was the largest ever held there, and prices ruled high. Some excellent predigree stock were offered principally from the herds of Messrs Ford and Snelling. Dairy cows made up to £7 10s, calves £1 12s 6d to £2 15s, empty cows £3 15s to £4 7s, young steers £4 2s 6d to £4 Bs.
At Kaiwaka very good cattle came forward and realised top values. Young steers to £4 Bs, springers £5 lis to £6 17s 6d, grown bullocks to £7 10s, empty coavs to £4, calves £2 2s to £2 lis. Fat sheep 17s. At AVarkworth such a nuuiber of cattle were yarded and though a start was made at noon Mr Snook was sellmg springers by candle light and then a number of sales took place on Thursday morning. AVell bred dairy cattle mot with keen competition, springers realised £3 12s 6d to £6 Bs, bu^ ranged mostly from £6 to L 6 ssyoung steers L 3 los to Ll 10s, two old Avorkers made L4 os each, 18 months heifers Lo os to L4, grown steers L6 to LB, calves L22s to L 2 15s, stngs L 4 10s to Lo 8s 6d, bulls L 3 15s to L7 5s
