BEER VERSUS TEA.
TO THE JSIUTOB,
Dear Siv,—-Being ft constant reader of your valuable pnpor, kindly allow me space for a few remarks. Seeing an article in your issue of October 18. with the abo,ve title, I 'thought it should not be passed un-noticed. Nq doubt your friend had good intentions, when he drew this vague comparison/ Tea iv injurious if drunk to excess, but it is only the - individual who suffers, While o& the other hand those Avho take beer to excess, not only injure themselves, but those around them;-If heev were only token in moderation it might be alright, but how-many Are there that stop at beer for dinner ? Did not the greatest drunkard, commence with moderation ? Your friend, in upholding-.drink, is fostering an institution which blasts with its poisonous breath every soul that outers it, for is it not the great enemy of name and country j of fatherhood, childhood, und huinanuy; which kills niore citizens than the greatest war.
Where are our temperance workers ? Now thnt there is a paper in our midst which offers every facility to keep the matter before the public and help on the cause.
" For the cause that lacks assistance" Abstainer.
